Ümit Barış Kutman

Principal Investigator · Assist. Prof. Dr.

Ümit Barış Kutman is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Biotechnology, Gebze Technical University, where he leads the Plant Biotechnology, Physiology and Nutrition Lab and is Vice Director of the Institute. He studied Biological Sciences and Bioengineering at Sabancı University (BSc 2005, PhD 2010). His doctoral work on the interaction between nitrogen and zinc nutrition in wheat is widely cited in the biofortification literature. Before joining GTÜ he worked at Konya Food and Agriculture University and at the University of California, Davis.

His research covers the mineral nutrition of plants, zinc and nitrogen interactions, biofortification of crops, abiotic stress tolerance, and mycorrhiza and root endophytes. In recent years the lab has also moved into soilless and vertical farming, where plant nutrition is the main lever for yield and quality.
