TÜBİTAK 3501 support for our Cystoseira barbata seaweed project

The project “Investigating the Biostimulant Effect Potential of Extracts from the Seaweed Cystoseira barbata on Wheat”, led by Asst. Prof. Bahar Yıldız Kutman with Asst. Prof. Berat Z. Haznedaroğlu of the Institute of Environmental Sciences at Boğaziçi University as researcher, has been accepted for support under the TÜBİTAK ARDEB 3501 programme.
Preliminary work began in 2020 with seaweed collected from the Sea of Marmara. In the project, extracts of this brown seaweed, which occurs in large masses in the seas around Türkiye, will be prepared by different methods, characterized biochemically and tested on wheat with physiological analyses. The project opens the way for a seaweed species from the Sea of Marmara to be evaluated for the first time as a novel bioeconomy resource and turned into a high value-added product for agriculture.
